Eddie Davis Community Center serves individuals and families in West Des Moines and across the greater Des Moines area, including Polk, Warren, Dallas, and Madison counties. It's an equal opportunity provider with no stated restrictions on who can receive food.
When you visit, head to the back door rather than the front entrance. One visitor noted receiving a protein bar that was past its expiration date, so it's worth checking items before you leave.
Beyond the food pantry, the center offers a range of free services. A free legal referral clinic is available to help connect people with legal resources. Volunteers run a free medical clinic on Tuesday evenings where uninsured visitors can get care at no cost. On-site meals are also served at the center. Additional programs include health and fitness educational opportunities, a computer lab, a library, and youth leadership programs. The free Clothes Closet is open to the general public and carries donated adult, youth, and children's clothing, shoes, hats, coats, and bedding. Items come from private individuals, schools, churches, and consignment shops. A free conference room is also available on-site.
