Who Can Visit?

Unity Food Pantry serves people who meet two requirements: your household income must be at or below 150% of the federal poverty level (as set by the State of Pennsylvania), and you must live in the pantry's service area. That area covers Greentree, Dormont, Westwood, and the parts of Pittsburgh, Scott, Mt Lebanon, and Crafton Heights where Unity is the nearest pantry. The pantry can't serve anyone who is already receiving food from another pantry.

All new clients must call to register before their first pickup.

How to Register?

Call 412-561-7551 between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on any Tuesday morning. A volunteer will check your eligibility and register you over the phone. Walk-ins during afternoon distribution can't be registered, and someone else can't come in person to register for you.

Items Needed for Registration

When you call to register, you'll need to have ready:

  • Income information for everyone living in your household
  • A photo ID with your current address
  • You'll also complete a Pennsylvania TEFAP form as part of the process

How Often You Can Visit?

You can visit once per calendar month. You're welcome to choose any Tuesday that works for your schedule.

Good to Know

Plan to bring a car, since the pantry provides generous amounts of food that can be difficult to carry on public transportation. Make sure there's enough space in the back of your vehicle for your order. You'll call in your food order on Tuesday morning, and volunteers will have it ready to load by 11:15 AM.

Food & Essentials

Each visit includes bags of non-perishable food items, dairy products, frozen meat and poultry, fresh produce, and bread and desserts. The amount of food goes up with the size of your household, and the pantry generally serves households ranging from one to six people. Diapers and baby food are also available for families who need them.

How to Pick Up

Distribution at Unity Food Pantry is drive-up only. When you arrive, drive around to the back of the church and pull up near the double doors on the far left side as you face the back of the building. Volunteers will bring your completed order out and place it in the back of your car. Your order is placed when you call in on Tuesday morning by 11:00 AM.

Ways to Give

The pantry welcomes donations of food, diapers, and money. Non-perishable food items and diapers are always appreciated, and cash donations let the pantry purchase food at a large discount through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. To find out what's needed most right now, call Pantry Coordinator Sally Petro on Tuesday mornings at 412-561-7551, or reach her anytime by email at sarpetro@msn.com.

How to Join the Team?

Unity Food Pantry is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers help with unloading food deliveries, bagging food for clients, distributing orders to cars, and cleaning up after distribution. To learn about volunteer opportunities, call Pantry Co-Coordinator Nadine Eichenmiller on Tuesday mornings at 412-561-7551.
