Who Can Visit?

The Comet Cupboard is open to members of the UT Dallas community. Before your first visit, you'll need to watch the User Orientation Video and complete the User Program Agreement at utdallas.qualtrics.com. You need to score 100% on the agreement, but don't worry — you can try again until you get a perfect score. This only needs to be done once for your entire time at UTD.

Items Needed for Registration

You'll need your Comet Card at every visit to access the Comet Cupboard. During your first visit, you'll also need to show your completed User Program Agreement score before shopping.

Good to Know

During your first visit, you'll receive a reusable tote bag to carry your selected items. For every visit after that, you'll need to bring that bag or another reusable bag (not a plastic bag or backpack) in order to shop. The normal limit is 6 items per category per visit, though this may be adjusted during special periods like finals week.

Food & Essentials

The Comet Cupboard distributes both perishable and non-perishable food items. It also provides personal care and household items to help students with everyday needs. The pantry regularly receives deliveries from the North Texas Food Bank and occasionally receives fresh items from partners like HelloFresh.

How to Pick Up

The Comet Cupboard is a self-select pantry where you pick your own items. It's located on the basement level of the Eugene McDermott Library, in MC 1.608. Just bring your Comet Card and your reusable bag, and you're good to go.

Ways to Give

The Comet Cupboard accepts donations of non-perishable, unexpired food items, personal care items, and household care items. You can drop off physical donations in the donation bins located inside the Eugene McDermott Library at MC 1.608, or at the UT Dallas Police Department, which accepts donations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are also several other on-campus donation bins available across campus. You can make a tax-deductible monetary gift online through the online giving portal, or donate cash or a personal check made out to UT Dallas at the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. You can also purchase items directly through the Comet Cupboard's Amazon Wishlist and have them shipped to the pantry. To host a food drive, you can complete a Donation Drive form on the website. For more information, contact the Comet Cupboard Team by email at cupboard@utdallas.edu or by phone at 972-883-6613.

How to Join the Team?

UT Dallas students can volunteer with the Comet Cupboard by watching the Online Volunteer Training Video and completing the Volunteer Program Agreement every year. New volunteers also need to attend a 1-hour In-Person Volunteer Training session, offered in September and February. Returning volunteers don't need to attend in-person training again. Once trained, students can use the EngageUTD platform to sign up for shifts that fit their schedule. UT Dallas staff and faculty groups can also volunteer — interested departments can submit a Volunteer Interest Form.
