How Often You Can Visit?
The pantry is meant for emergency situations. The FAQ on the website says you're asked to wait at least 3 months between visits, and to return only if you're facing a genuine emergency.
Good to Know
Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is needed. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing so staff has enough time to serve you. The process usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes, though wait times can vary. You must come in person to pick up food — someone else can't pick it up on your behalf. All food is free.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides a mix of shelf-stable and fresh items. Pantry staples include canned vegetables, rice, beans, and pasta. Protein options like eggs, meat, canned tuna, and peanut butter are available depending on supply. Fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables are offered when available. Bread and baked goods come in through weekly donations from local partners like the San Antonio Food Bank. Snack items such as granola bars, crackers, and cereal are also included. Canned goods are always provided, while produce and bread may vary by visit.
How to Pick Up
No appointment is needed. When you arrive, staff will walk you through a sign-in and ask for your name and a few basic details about your household. Then you'll wait in the waiting room while staff puts together a bag of food and groceries based on what's available that day. Once your bag is ready, it'll be handed to you.
Additional Support
The Presa Community Center offers several other free services on-site alongside the pantry:
- Free financial counseling through the Financial Empowerment Center
- Free tax preparation through VITA & MyFreeTaxes
- Mental health support through Mental Wellness and Behavioral Health
- Job training and career programs through Workforce Development
Facilities
The center has a Career Closet that provides free everyday casual clothing and work-appropriate attire to people looking for a job or starting a new one.
