Who Can Visit?

The Chapel Pantry is open to all guests from the Hampton Roads area. You don't need to make an appointment ahead of time. If it's your first visit, you'll register when you arrive. The pantry serves everyone with compassion, respect, and hospitality.

How Often You Can Visit?

Guests may visit the pantry once per calendar month. You can also visit the market with Food Rescue once per calendar week.

Good to Know

The pantry opens at 2 p.m., so please don't arrive before then. The pantry can get very busy, so coming early or at last call can help you get through faster. Numbered tickets are used to manage the line, and numbers may be called in a random order. There are wagons on-site to help you carry your food. The pantry is located at Eastern Shore Chapel's Barton House, at the end of the driveway past the parking lot. Please park in the main parking lots and walk to the pantry, or wait for a pickup from one of the golf carts.

Food & Essentials

The Chapel Pantry offers a wide variety of food. Guests have found fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, bread, pastries, cakes, pies, and desserts. The pantry also provides meat, eggs, milk, dairy products, canned goods, snacks, and pasta. There's also a produce market where fresh produce is regularly available. Items like diapers have also been available at certain visits.

How to Pick Up

The Chapel Pantry is a full client-choice, market-style food pantry and produce market. When you visit, you get a number, grab a cart, and walk through to pick out your own items. This shopping-style setup lets you choose foods that match your health needs, dietary preferences, and taste. For those who can't come in person, there's a "Grab and Go" program with pre-packed boxes of non-perishable food, bags of produce, and bags of frozen meat.

Ways to Give

Your support helps keep the pantry running for the community. Here are the ways you can give:

  • Food donations: The pantry welcomes in-kind donations of non-perishable food, paper and plastic grocery bags, and reusable bags. Bring donations to the Barton House at the end of the driveway past the parking lot. Go up to the wooden ramp and knock on the door. You can use a cart, or knock and ask a volunteer to help you unload.
  • Check donations: Make a check payable to Eastern Shore Chapel and write "Food Pantry" in the memo line. Deliver or mail it to Eastern Shore Chapel, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
  • Online donations: Give online at onrealm.org/easternshorechapel/-/form/give/pantry.

You can also call the pantry at (757) 428-6763 or email thechapelpantry@gmail.com for questions.

How to Join the Team?

The Chapel Pantry has more than 75 volunteers and is always looking for more help. Volunteer tasks include unloading trucks, sorting and stocking food, interacting with pantry guests, and driving golf carts. There's also a food packing role where volunteers pack non-perishable food boxes, bags of produce, and bags of frozen meat for the Grab and Go program.
