Who Can Visit?

Everyone is welcome. The Rock River Valley Pantry offers emergency food assistance for you, your family, and even your pets. There are no restrictions on who can come in for help.

How Often You Can Visit?

You can use either of the two RRVP locations once a month per household. You may not use both locations in the same month.

Good to Know

You'll receive a four-day supply of food for each person in your household. The pantry is described as neat, orderly, and quick to get through. Volunteers at the Broadway location have fresh garden produce available during distribution hours when it's in season. The pantry is closed on all major holidays.

Food & Essentials

Each visit includes a four-day food supply per household member, made up of meat, bread or rolls, a dessert or snack item, and available produce and dairy items. Milk is available for households with children under 18 or adults over 65. Packaged and canned goods include cereal, rice or other whole grains, dried beans, canned vegetables, canned or dried fruit, and canned soup. Surplus seasonal garden vegetables grown by the University of Illinois Extension and volunteers are also available inside the Broadway location during distribution hours.

The pantry also offers food for your pets through Kibble Korner Pet Food Pantry, which shares space at the main South Rockton Avenue location. To receive pet food you must complete an application and show a current rabies vaccination or registration form with a valid tag number. Pet food is available once a month, up to six times per year, for up to two dogs and/or cats per household.

How to Pick Up

At the 1100 Broadway location, you can come in during distribution hours for a mix of choice selections and prepackaged food. Volunteers are there to help answer questions and guide you through the process.

Additional Support

Community agencies provide resources in the RRVP lobby during food distribution. These may include SNAP pre-registration help, University of Illinois Extension programs, Medicare information, and Prairie State Legal Services.

Ways to Give

The pantry welcomes food donations and monetary contributions. Most-needed food items include canned fruit, peanut butter, applesauce, 100% juice, canned vegetables, pasta and rice, canned beans, cereal, tuna, and soup. Monetary donations allow the pantry to purchase two to three times more food than an equivalent food donation. You can give online at the RRVP donation page or donate to the endowment fund at the endowment donation page. The pantry also accepts skilled trades help for remodeling projects including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing work.

How to Join the Team?

To volunteer, fill out the online application form at rrvp.org/volunteering. An RRVP staff member will contact you with next steps. Volunteer roles include food rescue, warehouse sorting and stocking, registration and greeting, distribution shopping, and special projects. You can also reach out through the contact page or call 815-965-2466.
