Who Can Visit?

Any Scott County resident who's dealing with food insecurity is welcome. The AMEN House says there's no qualification to receive food, and no client is ever turned away. You'll need to apply for membership on your first visit, but you'll receive food and clothing the same day you apply.

The one exception is the sack lunch window, which is open to anyone with no membership required and no questions asked.

Items Needed for Registration

For your first visit, bring a current photo ID for each adult in the household. For children, bring a social security card, birth certificate, medical card, school ID, or driver's license, or have their names listed on a SNAP award letter. You'll also need to share your combined monthly household income.

Good to Know

The pantry can get busy, so arriving early in the morning is a good idea. Reviewers say they received enough food to get through the month.

Food & Essentials

The AMEN House rescues food from Aldi, Chick-fil-A, Dollar General, Kroger, Little Caesars, Panera, Starbucks, and Walmart. Members can expect dry goods, cold items including meat, and fresh produce. Reviewers mention receiving meat and canned vegetables along with some fresh produce. Bread and baked goods come from the Panera rescue partnership.

The pantry's most wanted donation items give a sense of what they stock: peanut butter, cereal, microwaveable mac and cheese bowls, microwaveable pasta bowls, fruit cups, and Pop-Tarts.

How to Pick Up

Volunteers fill and hand off food orders for each member visit. Volunteer roles cover cold food order fulfillment, dry goods order fulfillment, and produce order fulfillment, so your food is packed and ready when you arrive.

Additional Support

Several programs are available through the AMEN House at this location:

  • Sack Lunch: A free, no-questions-asked lunch served at the window on weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Around 200 sack lunches are served each day.
  • Home Delivery: Members with a medical condition that makes travel difficult, or those referred by Scott County Schools, can apply for direct home delivery. Contact Serena at 502-370-5548 (call or text) to get started, and have your doctor's office fax medical paperwork to 502-863-5307. Availability depends on volunteer drivers.
  • School Backpack Weekend Meals: Reach out to your school's Family Resource Youth Service Center for a referral.
  • Summer Feeding Program: Free meals for kids ages 0-18 during summer break.
  • Senior Commodities Distribution: For Scott County seniors age 60 and older who live below 130% of the poverty line. Held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Grace Christian Church's Student Center, 1648 Lexington Road, Georgetown. Call 502-863-5305 for registration details.

The Resource Center connects members with social workers who can help with job search support, connections to housing and community organizations, document procurement (like birth certificates and IDs), clothing vouchers, and referrals to other agencies.

The Business Ready program provides shoes or clothing to help you get ready for a new job if you're moving from unemployment or underemployment. The Fresh Start program offers linens and kitchen essentials like plates and cookware for people transitioning out of an unsheltered situation into a home.

Facilities

The AMEN House Resource Center at this location offers free computer and internet access for job applications, mail receiving so you can get a new driver's license, ID, or birth certificate delivered, and translation services to pair you with someone who speaks your language.

Ways to Give

Food donations can be dropped off at 533 East Washington Street during food pantry hours: weekday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Both non-perishable and perishable items are accepted. For perishables, hand them directly to a volunteer. Multipack items missing a few pieces are fine. Most needed items are peanut butter, cereal, microwaveable mac and cheese bowls, microwaveable pasta bowls, fruit cups, and Pop-Tarts.

To give online, visit the AMEN House donation page. Checks can be mailed to AMEN House, PO Box 211, Georgetown, KY 40324.

Clothing and household item donations go to the AMEN House Thrift Store at 1030 Paris Pike, Georgetown, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

How to Join the Team?

To volunteer, start your application at amenhouse.org/volunteer through the Bloomerang volunteer app. After your application is approved, you'll get an email from the Volunteer Coordinator and can then sign up for shifts that fit your schedule. If you haven't heard back within five days, reach out to follow up.

Youth are welcome: ages 10-13 can serve alongside a parent or guardian, and ages 14-17 can volunteer independently in age-appropriate food pantry roles. Learn about specific opportunities at amenhouse.org/volunteer-roles.
