Bluegrass Community & Technical College - Newtown Campus
Who Can Visit?
The HEART of BCTC pantry is open to current BCTC students who need extra support during their time at the college. No income verification is required. Just bring your student ID and stop by during open hours.
Items Needed for Registration
Bring your BCTC student ID. On your first visit, you'll also need your KCTCS username and password to complete a short intake form on-site. Be ready to go through the two-step authentication process to log in.
How Often You Can Visit?
Students can visit the pantry twice per month.
Good to Know
When you visit for the first time, you'll get a reusable shopping bag to fill. Bring it back each time you come. If you forget it, a replacement bag will be provided, but it may be smaller. Check the refrigerator too, as cold items are available in addition to what's on the shelves. The intake form you fill out on your first visit only needs to be completed once per semester. After that, you just scan in with your student ID.
Food & Essentials
The pantry stocks a wide range of food and household items. Food includes canned fruit, instant noodles, tuna packs, boxes of pasta, mini bags of chips, sliced cheese, frozen pizza, grits, cereal, rice packs, beans, and ready-made dinners. Personal care items include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, dental floss, baby wipes, diapers, and feminine hygiene products. Cleaning supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish soap, and multipurpose cleaner are also available. Baby food, dog food, and cat food are stocked as well.
How to Pick Up
The pantry works like a small self-select shop. You fill your bag with food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies from the shelves. Don't forget to check the refrigerator for cold items. Returning visitors scan in with their student ID at the start of each visit.
Additional Support
Can't make it to the Newtown Campus? You can place an online order and pick up your items at whichever BCTC campus is most convenient for you. Regional campus pickups may take a little extra time to prepare.
The college also has a Community Resources page with links to outside support services in the area.
Ways to Give
You can make a monetary donation to the pantry through the BCTC Foundation.
Item donations are welcome too. Current needs include canned fruit, instant noodles, tuna packs, boxes of pasta, frozen pizza, all-purpose flour, dog food, cat food, and baby food. Hygiene and cleaning supplies such as shampoo, body wash, bars of soap, diapers, deodorant, paper towels, and laundry detergent are also needed. Clothing donations can't be accepted at this time. For questions about donating food, baby supplies, cleaning items, or hygiene products, email BCTC-Hub@kctcs.edu.
