Who Can Visit?

The NKCAC Campbell County Neighborhood Center serves low- and moderate-income households in the Newport area. The emergency food pantry is open to anyone who doesn't have food at home or who is waiting for food stamp benefits to start. You'll need to schedule an appointment before your visit. You can book online at app.10to8.com/book/nkcac or call +1 (859) 484-8450.

How to Register?

Contact the Neighborhood Center to schedule an appointment. You can book online at the NKCAC scheduler or call +1 (859) 484-8450. If you can't come in person, virtual and telephone appointments are available by request.

Items Needed for Registration

For programs like energy assistance (which share the intake process), you'll need to bring:

  • Proof of all household income from the previous month (Social Security, SSI, or Railroad Retirement income must come from your award letter, not bank statements)
  • A current utility bill or a statement from your landlord if heating costs are included in your rent
  • Social Security cards for everyone in the home who is 2 years old or older (or a tax document showing the Social Security number)
  • The account number and name on the account for your main heating fuel and electric bill

One reviewer also suggested bringing Social Security numbers for everyone in the household and a copy of any bill you need help with.

Food & Essentials

The center's emergency food pantry provides nonperishable food to families in need. The organization also accepts donations of health and hygiene items like shampoo, soap, sanitary products, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, as well as paper products, cleaning supplies, diapers, and wipes for client needs. The pantry focuses on helping families stretch their food resources and meet their nutritional needs.

Additional Support

The Campbell County Neighborhood Center offers a wide range of services beyond food:

  • Utility assistance: LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) helps with heating and cooling bills. LIHEAP Subsidy typically runs April-May, July-September, and November-December. LIHEAP Crisis runs January-March for households with a past-due or disconnect notice. Walk-ins are accepted for families within 48 hours of a disconnect.
  • Home Energy Assistance (HEA): A partnership with Duke Energy offering subsidy credits and crisis help for households up to 200% of poverty.
  • Prescription assistance: In partnership with Faith Community Pharmacy, eligible clients with no drug coverage can receive free medications. Call Faith Community Pharmacy at (859) 426-7837 for details.
  • Health care enrollment: Trained Kynectors help you apply for Medicaid, KCHIP, or a Qualified Health Plan, and also assist with SNAP (food stamps) and CCAP (child care assistance). The Campbell County Kynector can be reached at (859) 652-5217.
  • Financial empowerment: Budgeting guidance, financial coaching, and access to community resources.
  • Case management and referrals: Staff connect families to other services they may need.

Reviewers have shared that staff helped with emergency utility shut-offs, called Duke Energy directly on their behalf, and walked them through keeping health insurance active.
