Who Can Visit?
GRIN serves people living in the Gahanna-Jefferson school district and the 43230 zip code area. No appointment is needed to visit the pantry during open hours. You can also place a locker order online and pick it up any time, day or night. To order through the locker, you must have a phone that accepts text messages or an email address you check regularly.
Items Needed for Registration
Please bring the following when you come for the first time:
- A bill showing your name and current address
- A valid ID (Driver's License or State ID)
- The number of people in your household
How Often You Can Visit?
Each household may visit up to two times per month.
Good to Know
The pantry lets you shop and choose your own items, so you get to pick what works for your family. When the pantry is close to closing time, the last shopping window ends 15 minutes before close, after which pre-packed boxes are handed out instead. If you can't make it during open hours, you can place a locker order online and pick it up 24/7 from the lockers in front of the building at 161 Granville St. Keep in mind it may take several days after submitting a request before your order is ready. GRIN also provides diapers for children up to 3 years old through its partnership with the Columbus Diaper Coalition.
How to Pick Up
GRIN is a client-choice pantry, meaning you shop and select your own food items. During the last 15 minutes of each session, the pantry switches to pre-packed boxes if you arrive after the shopping cutoff. You can also skip the pantry hours entirely by placing a locker order at Order now. Once your order is ready, you'll get a text and email notification. You then have 48 hours to pick it up using a code at the outdoor lockers, which are accessible 24/7.
Additional Support
GRIN offers several programs beyond the main food pantry:
- Weekend Supplemental Food: Weekly food packs are sent home with students who are struggling with food at home over the weekend. School counselors can start the referral, or you can email pd@grin4gahanna.org if you know a child in need.
- Summer Lunch Program: GRIN runs a lunch program for children during the summer.
- Extra Holiday Food: Extra food is provided around Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (in March, November, and December).
- Community Gardens: GRIN operates community gardens as part of its food-access programs.
- Back to School Event: A yearly event providing school-related support to families.
- Resource Referrals: GRIN maintains a list of outside resources for people who need help beyond what GRIN offers. Guides are available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Creole/Haitian, French, Nepali, and Somali at the Resources page.
Ways to Give
GRIN welcomes monetary and food donations. You can donate money at Donate to GRIN. Food and monetary donations can be dropped off directly at GRIN during donation hours (Monday 12-3 pm, Tuesday through Friday 9 am-12 pm) at 161 Granville St., Gahanna, OH 43230. If you can't make it during those hours, you can drop off at one of many satellite locations around the Gahanna area, including Bicycle One, Civista Bank, CrossFit Gahanna, Mifflin Presbyterian Church, New Life Church, The OSU Wexner Medical Center, and others. You can also organize a food drive for GRIN, either as a traditional collection or through the bag drop program. For food drive questions, email pd@grin4gahanna.org. For general questions, call (614) 214-4747 or email ed@grin4gahanna.org.
How to Join the Team?
GRIN welcomes both individual and group volunteers. All adults (age 19 and older) must complete a background check before signing up, which can take up to a week. You can start your background check at this link. The fee is $16.95, but if that's a problem, reach out to Brenda at ed@grin4gahanna.org. Children under 18 do not need a background check. After your background check is approved, review the volunteer handbook and then sign up for a shift at Sign-Up Genius. Some positions require lifting or special training, so read the criteria for each role. Groups of up to 10 people (minimum age 14) can also volunteer together. Group volunteers should email GRIN at pd@grin4gahanna.org with the group's name, size, and contact info.
