Saint Matthew Catholic Church Pantry - Food Distribution Center
Who Can Visit?
The Charitable Works Ministry serves individuals and families in the Gahanna, Blacklick, and Whitehall zip codes. It's the food pantry for those areas and is connected to LSS 211 Central Ohio. When someone calls 211 for food and gives a Gahanna-area zip code, the request comes directly to this pantry. The ministry provides enough food for three meals a day for five days. You can either pick up your food or have it delivered.
Good to Know
Each visit provides enough food to cover three meals a day for five days. The office is located past the church, near the west corner of the school. The building is light-colored stone with a driveway that slopes down. You'll find the office in the lower level, near the garage door. You can reach the team by phone at (614) 471-5320 or by email at cwm@stmatthew.net.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides food to cover three full meals a day. The ministry also collects personal care items including toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hand soap, and laundry soap, which are noted as always being in short supply. Clothing and household goods are collected and distributed throughout the year, including items like dishes, glasses, silverware, cookware, and clothing for all ages.
How to Pick Up
You can pick up food during office hours at the Charitable Works Ministry office, located in the lower level of the light-colored stone building near the west corner of the school at 807 Havens Corners Road in Gahanna.
Additional Support
Home delivery is available for those who can't come in person. Both pick-up and delivery options are offered. The pantry is also connected to LSS 211 Central Ohio, so anyone in the service area who calls 211 for food assistance will be directed here.
Ways to Give
There are several ways to support the Charitable Works Ministry:
- Financial donations: Monetary donations are collected after Mass on the 4th Sunday of each month (except November, when they're collected on the 3rd Sunday, and December, when there's no collection). Donations can also be made online at the CWM giving page by cash or check made out to "St. Matthew Charitable Works." Donations are tax-deductible.
- Food and personal care items: Perishable and non-perishable food is always welcome. Toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, hand soap, and laundry soap are always in low supply.
- Clothing and household goods: A different type of clothing or household item is collected each month and then given to partner organizations. Donations can be left at the portico entrance of the church or brought directly to the CWM office during regular hours.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are welcome to help stock shelves, sort and box clothing, or prepare food boxes for pickup or delivery. You can also help make sandwiches for the Holy Family Soup Kitchen and the Open Shelter. To sign up, use the volunteer links on the Charitable Works Ministry page:
