Inspired Vision Compassion Center
Who Can Visit?
Inspired Vision Compassion Center is open to everyone who needs food. There are no zip code restrictions, so you don't have to live nearby to come. The center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status. Everyone who needs food will be given food.
To receive groceries, you need to sign up for a food card on your first visit. It's quick and easy.
How to Register?
Bring a picture ID (the expiration date and state or country of issuance don't matter) and one current document with your name and address from the last 60 days, such as a car insurance card, lease, prescription, or a bill. Fill out a short form, and you'll have your card within a few minutes. Only one card is issued per household.
Items Needed for Registration
- A picture ID (expiration date and state or country of issuance don't matter)
- A current document with your name and address from the last 60 days (such as car insurance, a lease, a prescription, or a bill)
How Often You Can Visit?
You can visit once per day, every weekday. The pantry is open Monday through Friday, so you can come up to five times a week if your family needs it.
Good to Know
What's available changes each day and throughout the day as food is given out and new trucks arrive. The pantry can't guarantee what will be on hand when you come, so it's a good idea to watch their Facebook Live each morning to see what's available at opening. Items are first come, first served, so availability can shift during the day. Come prepared with a small cart or someone to help you carry things, since you may receive a good amount. The pantry serves about 1,800 to 2,000 families each day, so lines can be long, especially in the afternoon. Morning visits tend to be less crowded.
Food & Essentials
The pantry operates like a free grocery store. It provides fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, bread, chips, juice, water, snacks, and drinks. Because of its large volume, it's often able to offer fresh produce and healthy eating options rather than just canned goods. Stock changes daily based on donations, so what you receive will vary. In addition to food, the pantry also gives out hygiene products, baby formula, diapers, baby furniture, first aid supplies, home medical equipment, school supplies, and school uniforms. Pet supplies are also available when donated.
How to Pick Up
You get a cart at the front and walk through the distribution line. Volunteers pass out items as you go around. You take what they give you at each station as you move through the line.
Additional Support
Inspired Vision Compassion Center offers a wide range of services beyond food:
Health Services: A Parkland Hospital team provides wellness checks for adults on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm. Parkland also offers a video visit booth where patients can connect virtually with doctors, as well as periodic classes on topics like healthy eating for diabetics, having a healthy baby, and managing postpartum concerns. A pediatric medical clinic provides free care for children on-site. There is also a Doctor Spot that provides free vaccines daily, and on Thursdays a nurse practitioner is available for sports physicals and sick visits.
Job Training and Employment: Through a partnership with the South Dallas Employment Project, the center offers free career certification classes, job training, and employment assistance. The computer center helps with job placement and also assists clients in obtaining IDs and filing for unemployment. These programs are designed for people who face educational, social, or other obstacles to building a stable life.
Senior Social: Every Friday morning, the center hosts a social event for adults 55 and older. Between 80 and 130 seniors attend each week. The event offers a chance to socialize, build friendships, and have fun, with snacks and prizes for everyone who comes.
Pet Care: Spay Neuter Network provides free spay and neuter services for cats and dogs every Tuesday from a mobile unit in the parking lot. SPCA of Texas, Operation Kindness, and Duck Team 6 hold periodic vaccine and microchip clinics for pets.
Clothing and Seasonal Giveaways: The center runs a coat giveaway in October, a prom store, a back-to-school event, a wedding dress giveaway, and a Christmas toy giveaway each year.
Jewelry Class: Every Thursday at 10 am, an artisan in residence offers a jewelry making class. There is a $15 cost to cover materials.
Pastoral Counseling: Free pastoral counseling and prayer are available on-site.
Facilities
The center provides free professional clothing for men and women, a prom store with free formal wear, and a thrift-style setup for furniture, books, baby furniture, and household items. Visitors can find clothing, shoes, and various household goods alongside the food distribution.
