Who Can Visit?
Crisis Food Ministry serves individuals and families in the Irving area. You'll need an Irving address to receive food assistance. New visitors are limited to five per day, so plan to arrive early to make sure you're able to be seen.
Items Needed for Registration
New visitors must bring proof of residency, such as a lease or other documents that show how many people live at the Irving address. Reviewers also mention bringing a driver's license and an additional piece of mail with your address on it.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can receive food assistance for up to six months out of the year. One reviewer notes you can visit every two weeks to help supplement your groceries.
Good to Know
Visitors often find the food nearly fills their fridge and freezer. The pantry provides quite a lot of sweet items and bread, and there's a rack in the front waiting area where additional breads and sweets are available to take once you've been approved at the front desk. Getting there early before they open is a good idea, especially since new visitors are limited to five per day.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides a wide variety of groceries, including meat, vegetables, rice, pasta, canned goods, and packaged goods. You'll also find bread and baked items. Beyond food, the pantry offers personal hygiene products through its Choice Pantry program, including soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, feminine products, and diapers. Full-size products are provided to families.
How to Pick Up
Crisis Food Ministry uses a Choice Pantry model, which means you get to shop for the items that fit your specific dietary needs and preferences. This client-choice approach lets you pick what your household actually needs and wants, bringing dignity to the process.
Additional Support
The pantry provides daily meal bags to road warriors (people experiencing homelessness). Street showers are available on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The ministry also offers financial assistance for things like utilities, rent, transportation, and auto repairs. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, currently receiving services from Crisis Ministries or referred by a local church leader, and willing to attend at least three Financial Coaching sessions. Financial assistance is not an immediate payout.
Employment Coaching is available to help with job applications, resume building, interview preparation, and job placement. Counselors work closely with clients and connect them to training programs, many in partnership with the Dallas County Community College District.
Financial Coaching connects you one-on-one or in a group setting with professionals who help you work on credit, savings, debt, and managing expenses.
The ministry can also refer people to local health care facilities and resources available to low-income individuals in the area.
