Good to Know
Food is available while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. The pantry serves around 650 families per month and distributes over 280,000 pounds of food each year, so it's well stocked and sees a lot of families in the community.
Food & Essentials
The Pride Pantry offers a variety of food to help end hunger in the community. You can expect to find frozen, ready-made meals, as well as pantry staples like proteins, canned goods, and dry goods. Fresh, quality produce is also available.
How to Pick Up
The Pride Pantry works like a grocery store. You do the shopping yourself and select the items that best fit your household needs.
Additional Support
In addition to the Pride Pantry, LGBT Life Center also runs a USDA Food Program that provides ongoing monthly pantry support. Eligibility for this program is based on self-reported income and household size. Once you qualify, USDA food can be picked up during regular pantry hours.
Beyond food, the center offers a wide range of health and wellness services, including free HIV and STD/STI testing, mental health counseling, HIV services and case management, support groups, housing assistance, and transportation to medical appointments. The center also has a mobile clinic that goes out into the community to offer STI testing and health resources.
Ways to Give
You can support the Pride Pantry and LGBT Life Center's mission in several ways. Financial donations can be made online at the donation page, or mailed to LGBT Life Center, 222 W. 21st Street, F-308, Norfolk, VA 23517. The center also accepts pledges, recurring gifts, and stock donations. For questions about giving or to discuss donation options, contact Stacie Walls, Chief Executive Officer, at stacie@lgbtlifecenter.org or (757) 640-0929.
How to Join the Team?
LGBT Life Center welcomes volunteers for individuals and groups alike. Pantry Support volunteers help with receiving, inventorying, and distributing food. The pantry receives anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 pounds of food each month and relies on committed, regular volunteers to keep things running. You can sign up to volunteer at timecounts.app/lgbtlifecenter.
