Caring Hands-Eastview Food Pantry
Who Can Visit?
The Eastview Food Pantry is open to everyone regardless of income level. You don't need an ID to come, though having one is preferred. If you arrive without one, a limited amount of food is still available for you.
Items Needed for Registration
An ID is preferred but not required. Adults can bring a driver's license, passport, or state ID. Children can use a medical card or school ID.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can visit once a month to pick up basic food staples. You can also come once a week to take advantage of weekly items like bread, fresh produce, bakery goods, and personal care items.
Good to Know
For your monthly visit, you'll fill out a food choices sheet so you can help decide what you receive. For the weekly items, you'll get a pre-packed order. The pantry follows the Des Moines Public Schools severe weather schedule and may close when schools are closed. On days with heavy snow or extreme cold, check their Facebook page before heading over to confirm they're open.
Food & Essentials
Monthly visits include basic food staples through the DMARC pantry network. Weekly items include bread, fresh produce, and bakery goods, as well as personal care items. All items are subject to availability and donations.
How to Pick Up
This is a drive-up pantry, so you don't need to get out of your car. Use the SOUTH entrance near Evangel Church and drive around to the Porter's Hardware side of the building. Once you're there, stay in your car and honk your horn to let the team know you've arrived.
Ways to Give
Monetary donations are the most effective way to help. Food and personal care items are also accepted, and the greatest current need is for personal care items like deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, and diapers. You can drop off donations during regular pantry hours or call (515) 809-2356 to schedule a drop-off time. Online giving is also available through their website.
