Catholic Charities Of Des Moines - Food Pantry
Who Can Visit?
The Free Daily Food Window is open to everyone with no questions asked. You don't need to show any ID or bring paperwork with you. For the Monthly Market, which provides a full box of groceries for eligible families, use the DMARC mapping tool or call 515-277-6969 to find out which pantry serves your area.
How Often You Can Visit?
The Monthly Market provides food once per month per eligible family. There's no stated limit on how often you can visit the Free Daily Food Window.
Good to Know
Monthly Market food boxes include about a three-day supply of groceries, with the amount based on your family size. Items at the daily window are available while supplies last, so visiting earlier in the day is a good idea.
Food & Essentials
The Free Daily Food Window offers fresh produce, milk and other dairy products, rice, beans, Meals from the Heartland, and food rescue items collected from community partners including Hy-Vee, Costco, Panera, and Walmart. Bread and pastries are available every day as well.
Monthly Market boxes include peanut butter, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs, and fresh produce. Diapers and formula are also available for families in need, while supplies last.
The pantry also provides personal hygiene items and pet food to those it serves.
How to Pick Up
This is a walk-in pantry with a supermarket-style layout. Volunteers help clients shop for their monthly food box so families can pick items that work for them. Daily food bags are prepared and given out to visitors during open hours.
Additional Support
Catholic Charities offers Community Resource Coordination to anyone who needs help finding local support. A coordinator can connect you with resources for housing, employment, childcare, food assistance, healthcare, and more. Reach out to the team to get started.
Facilities
The Tom Leto Personals Closet is an on-site space where clients can receive personal hygiene items in addition to their food.
Ways to Give
You can donate money to the food pantry online at catholiccharitiesdm.org/donate-fp. The pantry also has an Amazon Wish List where items are shipped directly to the pantry. For in-kind donations, hygiene items, baby supplies (diapers, wipes, and formula), and shelf-stable food are most needed. The pantry doesn't accept clothing, though new socks and gloves are welcome. Drop off donations at the main office at 601 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50309, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. For large donations, contact Bobbi Jo Smith at 515-237-5064.
How to Join the Team?
