Who Can Visit?
Anyone in need is welcome to visit. The Salvation Army serves everyone who comes through the door without discrimination.
Good to Know
A typical pantry visit provides about three to five days' worth of nutritionally balanced groceries, all at no charge.
Food & Essentials
The pantry distributes nonperishable food and dry pantry goods, with a focus on grains, canned vegetables and fruits, proteins, and pasta. Fresh produce such as potatoes, lettuce, other vegetables, and fruit may also be available.
How to Pick Up
Visitors can stop in to pick up grocery items directly. This pantry works together with the Salvation Army's nearby Citadel Corps to fill more than 10,000 grocery orders every year across the two locations.
Additional Support
The Salvation Army runs a mobile breakfast service, known as the "Sally Truck," that travels to five locations around central Des Moines on Tuesday and Friday mornings year-round. The service provides a hot egg casserole, beverages, individually boxed cereals, donuts, hard-boiled eggs, and other available items to people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Dog food and cat food are sometimes offered too. For more information or to volunteer with the mobile breakfast service, call 515-282-3599.
The Pathway of Hope program offers case management and support for families with children 18 and younger in Polk, Warren, and Dallas counties, helping them move from crisis to lasting stability.
Ways to Give
You can donate cash or nonperishable food items to support the pantry. Online donations can be made through their website. To donate clothing, furniture, or other goods, visit satruck.org or call 1-800-SA-TRUCK to schedule a pickup or find a drop-off location near you.
How to Join the Team?
