Who Can Visit?

This pantry is part of the DMARC Food Pantry Network and is open to everyone in the greater Des Moines community. There are no income or residency requirements, and no appointment is needed. Just show up during open hours and you'll be welcomed.

Items Needed for Registration

Bring a photo ID if you have one. The pantry asks for ID to help keep track of who it serves, but you won't be turned away if you don't have one.

How Often You Can Visit?

You can receive a three-day supply of food once per month at no cost. After using your monthly supply, you're welcome to return as often as you need for "Anytime" items.

Good to Know

Each visit includes a three-day supply of food for your household. Healthy, nourishing food is the focus, with items you'd expect to find at a regular grocery store. During severe weather or national holidays, the pantry may be closed, so it's a good idea to check before making the trip.

Food & Essentials

The pantry carries a wide variety of grocery items. You'll find canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned beans, and canned meat, along with staples like peanut butter, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, and soup. Whole grain cereals and breads are also stocked. Fresh and frozen options include produce, frozen meat, frozen meals, and dairy products. Personal hygiene products are available too. Families with young children may also find diapers, formula, and baby food on the shelves.

How to Pick Up

Visitors shop for their own items, similar to a regular grocery store. A points-based system guides selections based on household size, and a volunteer is available to help you find what you need.

Additional Support

If getting to the pantry in person is difficult, DMARC offers free food delivery to the greater Polk County area. Call 1-833-362-7220 toll-free Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon to place an order. All deliveries go out on Thursdays. There are no income restrictions or delivery charges.

Ways to Give

You can donate money online at dmarcunited.org/donate or by mailing a check payable to DMARC at 100 Army Post Rd, Des Moines, IA 50315. Food donations can be dropped off at the DMARC Food Pantry Network Warehouse at the same address, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (use the east entrance off Chaffee Rd). Call 515-277-6969 and press 5 for warehouse. The most needed items include peanut butter, canned fruit, whole grain cereal, dry and canned beans, pasta, and rice. Non-food items like personal care products, diapers, formula, and baby food are also greatly appreciated. Red Barrel donation boxes at participating local grocery stores are another easy way to give.

How to Join the Team?

New volunteers can get started by completing the volunteer application online. Returning volunteers can view and sign up for shifts through the volunteer portal. Groups can fill out the group interest form on DMARC's website.
