Polk County River Place Food Pantry
Who Can Visit?
All households in Polk County are welcome. Income limits apply for some items, but no one will be turned away. You'll need to bring a photo ID to receive food.
Items Needed for Registration
Bring a photo ID when you visit.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can shop for a full three-day supply of food once per month. A smaller selection of items is also available on any day the pantry is open. You're also welcome to visit other DMARC and Food Bank of Iowa pantries throughout the month.
Good to Know
Expect to leave with a three-day supply of food. Some reviewers report getting close to a week's worth in a single visit. A staff member will check you in, and then a volunteer will walk through the store with you and explain exactly how many of each item your household can take. The pantry is busy, so there may be some wait time.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides healthy, nutritious food along with essential non-food items. Past visitors have received items like orange juice and apple juice in gallon containers, instant mashed potatoes, cereal, fresh strawberries, milk, rice, box cheese, and canned goods.
How to Pick Up
This is a client-choice pantry where you walk through the store and pick your own items. After staff check you in, a volunteer walks alongside you to show you how many of each item you can take based on your household size.
Additional Support
DMARC offers limited home delivery for clients who can't come to the pantry in person and don't have someone to pick up on their behalf. This service is reserved for people facing health issues, transportation barriers, or other serious challenges. To request delivery, call DMARC toll-free at 1-833-362-7220.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are a big part of how this pantry runs, and shifts are typically 2 to 3 hours. You must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check along with a child and dependent adult registry check. Corporate and church groups of up to three volunteers at a time are also welcome.
To apply, complete the volunteer application and submit it to the pantry. A driver's license and photo ID are required. For more information, you can reach pantry supervisor Mike Maiers at 515-286-3662.
