Salvation Army Des Moines Temple Worship & Service Center - Food Pantry
Who Can Visit?
The Salvation Army Temple Worship & Service Center welcomes anyone who needs food. The pantry serves all people without discrimination. There are no income limits or residency requirements listed.
Good to Know
The Temple food pantry works alongside the Salvation Army's Citadel Corps location to fill more than 10,000 grocery orders every year in Des Moines. A typical Salvation Army pantry visit provides a three-to-five-day supply of groceries, all free of charge.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides nonperishable food and dry pantry staples. You can expect items like canned vegetables and fruits, grains, proteins, and pasta. In some Salvation Army locations, fresh produce such as potatoes, lettuce, and other vegetables or fruit is also included.
How to Pick Up
Visitors come in and pick up food directly at the pantry. Contact the location to confirm current distribution hours before your visit.
Additional Support
The Salvation Army offers the Pathway of Hope, a casework program serving families with children 18 years old and younger in Polk, Warren, and Dallas counties. The program helps families work through instability and connect with community resources to break the cycle of poverty.
A mobile breakfast service also travels to five locations around central Des Moines every Tuesday and Friday morning year-round, serving a hot egg casserole, beverages, boxed cereals, donuts, hard-boiled eggs, and other available items to people experiencing homelessness. For more details or to learn how to volunteer with that program, call 515-282-3599.
Ways to Give
You can support the pantry by donating cash, food, or goods. Drop off clothing, furniture, electronics, and other donated items through the Salvation Army's donation service. To give money online, visit the donation page. For questions, call (515) 266-3156.
How to Join the Team?
The Salvation Army has a digital volunteer portal where you can search for open shifts near you, sign up, and track your hours. Visit volunteer.central.salvationarmyusa.org to get started. You can also contact the team if you have questions about finding the right role.
