Families Forward Bidwell Pantry
Who Can Visit?
The Bidwell Pantry is a no-boundary pantry that welcomes everyone, no matter where they live. There are no income or financial requirements. IDs are preferred but not required. If you don't have an ID, you can still receive a limited amount of food.
Items Needed for Registration
Bring a photo ID if you have one. While an ID is preferred, it's not strictly required for your first visit.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can visit for regular groceries once a month. If you need food sooner, emergency food is available every four days.
Good to Know
Make sure to check in by 3:30 p.m., even though the pantry stays open until 4:00 p.m. Parking can be tight since a preschool and daycare are located next door, so be patient when pulling in or leaving. First-time registration is quick and done in person at the pantry. During busy times, plan for your visit to take about 30 minutes to an hour.
Food & Essentials
Each monthly visit typically includes one meat item and around ten additional food items. Past visitors have received canned vegetables, rice, spaghetti, canned fruit, peanut butter, eggs, bread, and a dessert item. The pantry also offers fresh produce including items grown in the pantry's garden, along with milk, flour, oil, cereal, and beans.
How to Pick Up
The Bidwell Pantry uses a client-choice model. After checking in, you browse the pantry and select your own items. If you prefer, a volunteer can make the selections for you. When you're done, you check out and head home. Staff can also help carry items out to your vehicle.
Additional Support
Along with food, the pantry runs a clothing closet with clothing and shoes. Diapers and personal care and hygiene products are also available. The Essential Household Items program provides home goods for families in need. During the holiday season, the pantry distributes holiday meals such as turkey or ham with sides, and provides gift help for children. Staff and volunteers can also connect visitors to other community resources, such as free cellphone programs for people on food assistance.
Ways to Give
You can make a financial donation through their website. You can also shop from their Amazon Wish List to send needed items directly to the pantry. Groups, workplaces, schools, and faith communities are encouraged to host supply drives for food, toiletries, diapers, clothing, and household items. For more information, reach out at info@familiesforward.org.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are welcome at the Bidwell Food and Clothing Pantry. You can guide families through their grocery experience, help with clothing and household item selections, organize donations, or stock and face grocery items. Both individuals and groups are welcome. To sign up, visit the volunteer signup page. For questions, contact Missy Reams at missy@familiesforward.org.
