Who Can Visit?
The Salvation Army Des Moines Citadel food pantry is open to anyone in the community who needs food assistance. You'll sign in when you arrive before receiving your groceries.
Good to Know
Visitors can expect to take home a shopping cart full of food. Hygiene products are also included at each visit, so you don't need to bring or ask for them separately. Community members note that the pantry is generally open 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., with no morning hours on Tuesdays.
Food & Essentials
The pantry distributes a variety of groceries. Community members report receiving items such as milk and chicken, along with other staple foods. Hygiene products are also handed out alongside the groceries at each visit.
How to Pick Up
This is a self-select pantry. You sign in when you arrive and then fill a shopping cart with the groceries you'd like to take home. Staff are there to help and make the experience welcoming.
Additional Support
The Salvation Army Citadel provides a range of services beyond the food pantry. Hot meals are served on-site, including breakfast, coffee, drinks, and lunch. Clothing is available for those in need, and children's activities and programs are offered on-site as well. Personal counseling and spiritual guidance are also part of the services here.
For families facing financial hardship, emergency utility and rent assistance is available to help pay electric, gas, and other household bills. During the holiday season, the Angel Tree program provides gifts and other support to families in need.
Ways to Give
To donate food, clothing, furniture, or other household items, visit satruck.org to schedule a pickup or find a drop-off location near you. Financial donations can also be made to support the Citadel's programs and services.
