Johnston Partnership Food Pantry & Clothing Closet
Who Can Visit?
Everyone is welcome at Johnston Partnership. There are no income requirements to receive pantry items, and no proof of citizenship is needed. The pantry serves all visitors regardless of family size, cultural background, national origin, race, gender identity, or disability.
Items Needed for Registration
On your first visit, bring a form of ID for every member of your household. Your ID should include your name, date of birth, and your address. After your first visit, you only need to share your name to check in.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can visit the main pantry once per month. The anytime food area, stocked with fresh bread and other perishable items, is available once per day on a first-come, first-served basis.
Good to Know
Each monthly visit provides a three-day supply of food based on your family size. The anytime food area is open separately during regular hours and doesn't count against your monthly visit. USDA Foods are available for eligible visitors without an ID. Pantry videos in Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, French, Karen, Spanish, and Swahili are available at johnstonpartnership.org/videos. Check johnstonpartnership.org/closures for weather and holiday closures before you visit.
Food & Essentials
Each visit includes a wide array of culturally appropriate and nutritionally balanced food, including fresh produce when it's in season. The anytime food area is stocked with perishable items like fresh bread. You'll also receive hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, period products, and diapers (as available), plus household items like toilet paper and laundry soap (as available).
How to Pick Up
Johnston Partnership is a client-choice pantry. When you arrive, a volunteer checks you in and explains how many items you can select based on your family size. From there, you shop for the items that work best for your household.
Additional Support
Johnston Partnership provides referrals to a wide range of community resources, including food assistance programs, utility help, health care, housing support, and mental health services. Visit the Additional Resources page or contact the pantry for help getting connected.
Facilities
An on-site clothing closet lets you shop for seasonally appropriate clothes for the whole family at no charge. You're welcome to visit the clothing closet during your pantry visit.
Ways to Give
Cash donations are accepted through Givebutter, Venmo, or by check mailed to Johnston Partnership, PO Box 975, Johnston, IA 50131. You can also drop off a check in person during regular hours or order items through the Amazon Wish List. Item donations including food, clothing, hygiene products, household items, baby supplies, and pet food can be dropped off during business hours. Email carissa@johnstonpartnership.org to set up a drop-off appointment outside of regular hours. See the full list of accepted items on the Donate Items page.
How to Join the Team?
Johnston Partnership relies on volunteers for three roles: food pantry, clothing closet, and incoming donation processing. Adults 18 and older and high school students 14 and older are welcome. Groups of four or fewer may volunteer together. Review the Volunteer Handbook before your first shift and sign up for open shifts at signup.com. For questions, email the Pantry Manager at carissa@johnstonpartnership.org.
