Who Can Visit?
This program is for low-income seniors age 60 and older who live in Polk, Dallas, Boone, Jasper, Story, or Warren County. You'll need to apply and be enrolled before you can shop here.
How to Apply?
There are several ways to apply:
- Apply online through the Polk County application portal.
- Call (515) 286-3655 or toll-free 1-877-288-3655 to apply by phone or to ask for an application to be mailed to you.
- Download and mail in the application form.
- Come in person to Polk County River Place at 2309 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines.
Items Needed for Registration
You'll need to bring proof of age, such as a driver's license, birth certificate, or state ID. Your monthly income is self-reported and no income documents are required. You can review the Senior Income Guidelines to see if you qualify.

Staff are kind and will help you carry your food out to your car.

Each month you'll receive a selection of healthy, nutritious foods at no cost, including:
- Bottled juice
- Canned fruits and canned vegetables
- Hot and cold cereals
- Peanut butter and beans
- Pastas
- Cheese
- Shelf-stable 1% milk and powdered milk
How to Pick Up
Once you're enrolled, you shop in a grocery store-like atmosphere at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines. Everything is provided free of charge.

Free home delivery is available for people who can't come in because of transportation or health issues. Call (515) 286-3655 or toll-free 1-877-288-3655 to arrange it.
