Who Can Visit?

Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC) serves low-income families and individuals across Northern Kentucky. Their Emergency Food Pantries are available for people who don't have food at home or who are waiting for food stamp benefits to start. To find the food pantry nearest to you, call the Neighborhood Center in your county, since food programs vary by location.

Food & Essentials

The food pantry provides nonperishable food items to help families stretch their food dollars. The program also aims to help children, adults, and seniors meet their nutritional needs. NKCAC also accepts and distributes hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, sanitary products, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, as well as paper and cleaning products like diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.

Additional Support

NKCAC offers a wide range of services beyond food assistance:

  • Energy and utility help: The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Home Energy Assistance (HEA) programs help with heating and cooling bills. The LIHEAP Crisis program (January through March) helps households facing a past-due bill or disconnect notice.
  • Health care enrollment: Trained Kynectors can help you apply for Medicaid, KCHIP, and Qualified Health Plans, and they can also help you apply for SNAP (food stamps) and Child Care Assistance (CCAP). This service is available in Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton Counties.
  • Prescription assistance: In partnership with Faith Community Pharmacy, NKCAC can help qualified clients with no prescription coverage get free medications. People with Medicare Part D may also be eligible.
  • Financial literacy and empowerment: Staff offer one-on-one counseling and group workshops covering budgeting, banking, credit, and avoiding predatory lending.
  • Job training and employment: Career readiness programs, youth services, senior employment, and the Lincoln Grant Scholar House provide education and job skills.
  • Goal coaching and case management: Staff work with families to help them move toward financial stability.
  • Head Start and Early Head Start: Early childhood education programs that include nutritious meals for enrolled children.
  • Summer Nutrition Program: Free, balanced meals for all children 18 and under during summer months when school is not in session.

Ways to Give

You can support NKCAC by making a financial donation. They also welcome donations of nonperishable food, hygiene items (shampoo, soap, sanitary products, toothpaste, toothbrushes), paper products, cleaning supplies, diapers, and baby items like bottles, bibs, and wipes. For more information, call (859) 581-6607 or contact Rhonda Chisenhall at rchisenhall@nkcac.org.
