Who Can Visit?

The pantry is open to individuals and families in need throughout Cambridge and the greater Boston area. There are no residency restrictions. On your first visit, you'll need to verify your residency and income status. This information is kept private and won't be shared publicly.

Items Needed for Registration

On your first visit, bring a form of ID and a form of income verification. Photo ID is not required. Accepted forms of ID include a Mass Health or other insurance card, a non-photo EBT card, a local supermarket card, a library card, a public transit card, or a referral from a social service agency. A voluntary photo ID is accepted as an option but is never required.

For income verification, the pantry accepts a paystub, a Medicare or Mass Health card, a DTA/EBT card, a benefit statement, a referral, or any other document that shows your income status.

For proof of address, accepted documents include a utility bill, mail with a postmark, a bank statement, a signed lease or rental agreement, or a property tax bill. You can also provide your address verbally.

How Often You Can Visit?

You're welcome to visit up to four times per month.

Good to Know

Bring a shopping bag when you come. The selection can vary depending on the day of the week you visit.

Food & Essentials

The pantry provides fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and dry goods, meats, and dairy products. Visitors have found items like potatoes, oranges, sweet potatoes, plantains, rice, tuna, mac and cheese, bread, frozen vegetables, and snacks.

How to Pick Up

Visitors line up and then move through the pantry, selecting food from items laid out on tables. Staff use a numbering system to let you know how many items you can take from each section.

Additional Support

East End House volunteers deliver groceries to seniors and to people who are homebound due to illness. The organization also offers periodic workshops covering topics like health screenings and other community needs, as well as computer and tech classes open to families, seniors, and community members. You can donate online at the East End House donation page using a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. You can also mail a check or money order to East End House at 105 Spring Street, Cambridge, MA 02141. In-kind gifts are welcome and appreciated. How to Join the Team?

East End House welcomes individual and group volunteers for the food pantry and other programs. Food pantry volunteers help organize and stock groceries, assist with food deliveries, and hand out food to community members. To apply as an individual, complete the volunteer application and return it along with a CORI form. A health form signed by a doctor is also required. To volunteer as a group, visit the group volunteer scheduling page. You can also browse and sign up for East End House opportunities through Boston Cares.
