Who Can Visit?

The Wyandotte Food Pantry at Metro Lutheran Ministry is open to Wyandotte County residents only. The pantry runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11:00 am and serves the first 30 people each day.

On Mondays, bread products are distributed and are open to the public on a first come, first served basis. On Tuesdays, fresh produce is distributed and is also open to the public on a first come, first served basis.

Allergy-friendly food is available. Please bring a note from your physician if you need it.

How Often You Can Visit?

You can visit during any regular open day, Monday through Friday, as long as you are within the first 30 people served. The pantry is open each weekday morning.

Good to Know

Since only the first 30 visitors are served each day, it helps to arrive early. Visitors say the pantry loads you up with a lot of food and has a great variety of items to choose from. Staff is described as very friendly and helpful.

Food & Essentials

The pantry provides a good variety of nutritious food, including canned goods and other non-perishable items. Fresh produce is handed out every Tuesday. Bread products are given out every Monday. Hygiene items are also distributed to food pantry clients at all three community care center locations, with help from Giving the Basics and other generous donors.

How to Pick Up

Visitors are served on a first come, first served basis, with the first 30 guests helped each day. Visitors describe the pantry as having lots of items to choose from.

Rent, Utility, and Mortgage Assistance is available for Wyandotte County, KS residents at 722 Reynolds Avenue. Walk-in applications are accepted on Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and on the 2nd Monday of each month. You must live in Wyandotte County and meet income guidelines. Kansas Birth Certificate Assistance is available at the Wyandotte location (722 Reynolds Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66101). You must live in Wyandotte County, KS and meet the guidelines. Subject to funding availability. Call 913-342-8333 for more information.

Medical and Dental Assistance is available for households with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level once every 12 months. Help may include eye exams and eyeglasses, prescription costs, diabetes supplies, emergency dental care, and durable medical equipment including hearing aids. MLM also provides a Dental Assistance Program for at-risk and homeless households through a dental partner in Kansas City, KS. Both MO and KS residents are welcome with a referral from MLM. Senior Commodity Boxes are provided once a month for seniors 60 years or older, through a partnership with Harvesters. These are distributed on specific dates each month. During those days, the regular food pantry is not open to the general public. Call the MLM front desk at 816-931-0027 or email info@mlmkc.org for the schedule.

Market Monday (January through November) packages and distributes fresh produce provided by Harvesters and transports it to guests' cars. Many guests wait overnight to get a spot in line.

Sack Lunches are given to anyone who is hungry, whether they are visiting for other services or walk in off the street. Over 1,500 lunches are handed out each month. For many people experiencing homelessness, this may be the only meal they have each day.

Other ways to give include:

• Stock Donations: Donors can receive a tax advantage for donating stocks and other appreciated securities. Contact Becky Poitras, VP/Executive Director, at 816-285-3149.
• Vehicle Donations: Cars, motorcycles, RVs, and boats are accepted. All proceeds go to MLM programs. Contact Becky Poitras at 816-285-3149 to schedule a pick up or drop off.
• Thrivent Financial: Thrivent Choice members can direct their fraternal dollars to MLM. Visit Thrivent.com or call 800-847-4836.
• In-Kind Donations: MLM accepts food, hygiene items, gifts for the Christmas store, and more.

How to Join the Team?

Volunteers assist Monday through Friday at all three food pantry locations, including the Wyandotte (KCK) location. Individuals and groups of any size are welcome.
