Food & Essentials

Seton Center provides nutritious supplemental food as well as personal care and hygiene products. The main food supply comes from Harvesters, TEFAP, Hiland Dairy, and a monthly donation from St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Any extra needs are covered by purchases from local grocery stores. Weekly bread and sweet donations are provided by Raytown Reap and Price Chopper. Additional donations come throughout the year from organizations, businesses, churches, and individuals.

Food items the pantry commonly provides and accepts include canned vegetables, canned fruits, dried fruit, canned chicken, canned tuna, canned salmon, brown or white rice, pasta, peanut or almond butter, canned soup, and hot and cold cereal. Other food items include dairy products, frozen vegetables, meat, baking mix, oil, seasonings, juice, and seasonal fish.

Personal care and hygiene supplies are provided through Giving the Basics and supplemented by other store purchases. Hygiene items include soap, shampoo, sanitary items such as tampons, pads, and liners, deodorant, lotion, laundry detergent or pods, bathroom tissue, toothpaste, toothbrush, bar soap, laundry pods, facial tissue, and feminine hygiene supplies.

How to Pick Up

How to Join the Team?

Seton Center welcomes volunteers of all kinds, including individuals, faith communities, company teams, civic organizations, and families. Volunteers help with sorting and packing bags in the food pantry, sorting clothing and restocking the thrift store, stuffing envelopes for mailings, assisting with back-to-school distribution, planning and staging special events, holding food drives or collections, and helping with the Christmas Sharing Program.

When volunteering, Seton recommends wearing closed-toe shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dirty. You should be able to lift 25 pounds.
