Who Can Visit?

SPEAC (Southern Platte Emergency Assistance Center) was formed in 1989 to help people facing hunger in Southern Platte County, Missouri. Anyone in the area who needs food help is welcome to come. The pantry serves individuals and families in need.

To visit the pantry, you must call ahead to make an appointment. Please call 816-746-1057 on Mondays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to schedule your visit for the week. SPEAC is not able to take appointments online or by email.

Good to Know

The pantry is located on the lower level of Parkville Presbyterian Church at 812 East Street (9 Highway) in Parkville, MO 64152. The client entrance faces East Street (9 Highway), across from Park University's Soccer Field.

The pantry is closed whenever Park Hill Schools are closed for weather. If the district's school buses cannot run due to bad weather, the pantry will also be closed. You can call 816-746-1057 for a recorded message or check the SPEAC Facebook page to find out about closures.

Visitors describe the volunteers as very caring, kind, and helpful with no judgment.

How to Pick Up

The pantry processes requests and fills food orders for each visitor. Volunteers staff the pantry, process requests, and fill orders for clients.

Ways to Give

Your donation helps SPEAC pay the handling fees to Harvesters Food Bank and buy food and personal items not available from Harvesters. There are a few easy ways to donate:

How to Join the Team?

SPEAC is a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff. Volunteering is a fun way to stay active, meet new people, and make a real difference in your community.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Unloading delivery trucks from Harvesters and stocking food onto pantry shelves
  • Staffing the food pantry and processing client requests
  • Filling food orders
  • Helping with fundraising, marketing, and grant writing
