Who Can Visit?

Everyone is welcome at Open Door Mission. The community meal program serves warm meals to men, women, and children with no questions asked. You don't need an appointment or an ID to share a meal here.

If you're struggling to put food on the table for your family, the Mission can also provide a monthly emergency food box. To learn more about getting a food box, call (585) 454-6696.

How Often You Can Visit?

The community meals are served every day. For families who need groceries to take home, Open Door Mission offers an emergency food box once a month.

Good to Know

The meals are made to be hearty and healthy, and the kitchen staff work hard to make sure every guest leaves with a full belly. If you can't stay to eat, you can pick up a "to-go" meal instead. Overnight shelter guests are also served a warm meal each evening.

Food & Essentials

Open Door Mission serves a warm, nourishing evening meal every day at the Selah House. For families who need food to take home, the Mission provides a monthly emergency food box.

How to Pick Up

Meals are served daily at the Selah House, located at 156 N Plymouth Avenue. You can grab a "to-go" meal from 5:00pm to 5:30pm, and a sit-down dinner is served at 6:00pm, Monday through Sunday. All are welcome to come and enjoy a meal in a supportive setting.

To ask about a monthly emergency food box, call (585) 454-6696.

Additional Support

Open Door Mission offers much more than food. The Mission provides emergency shelter with a safe place to sleep and warm meals, transitional housing for women with children, a faith-based addiction recovery program for men, and permanent supportive apartments for single adults. Residents can get help with case management, job readiness training, financial skills, and job searching.

A non-denominational chapel service is held every evening at 7:30pm, with Bible study and one-on-one counseling also available. If the Mission can't help with what you need, the staff will do their best to connect you with other local resources, including the 211 Lifeline and the Monroe County Department of Human Services.

Facilities

Open Door Mission runs a free clothing room where men, women, and children can pick out clothing for any season at no cost. The clothing room is located at the Mission Donation Center at 20 North Plymouth Avenue. You'll need proper identification to pick up clothing, and you should call (585) 454-6696 to make an appointment first.

Ways to Give

Open Door Mission relies on community donations to keep its food program running. You can drop off non-perishable and fresh, unopened food at the kitchen at 156 North Plymouth Avenue, Monday through Friday. Pull to the back of the building to the loading dock. Most-needed items include breakfast cereals, coffee, canned soup and vegetables, canned tuna and meat, beans, rice, pasta, sauce, bottled water, and boxed mac and cheese. The Mission can't accept opened catered food. For a very large donation or to schedule a pickup, call (585) 454-6696.

You can also donate clothing, hygiene products, and basic essentials at the Donation Center at 20 North Plymouth Avenue, Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:45pm. Hygiene items like toothbrushes, body wash, shampoo, towels, and underwear are always needed. The Mission accepts some basic furniture for families moving into permanent housing, but please call ahead first. To give money, visit the Give Now page or sign up for monthly giving. You can also shop the Mission's Amazon wishlist.

How to Join the Team?

Open Door Mission welcomes volunteers to help serve meals, sort donations, stock the pantry, prepare bagged lunches, and organize the clothing room. Groups can serve together too. To get started, register to volunteer, then create an account to browse opportunities and sign up for shifts.
