Community Human Services (CHS) Food Pantry
Who Can Visit?
The CHS Oakland Food Pantry is open to everyone in the community. You don't need to be a current CHS client or bring any documentation to receive food. Anyone facing food insecurity is welcome.
How Often You Can Visit?
Visitors can come once a month to pick up food.
Good to Know
The pantry is located in the back of the building at 370 Lawn Street. They give out a generous amount of food, so it helps to bring a car, boxes, or a rolling cart since the haul can be more than one person can carry by hand. The space can get crowded, and waits of around an hour are common on busy days. Interpreters are available for non-English speakers when volunteer interpreters are present.
Food & Essentials
Each visit includes fresh fruits and vegetables, non-perishable food items, dairy products, and a choice of meat or fish. Halal meats are available. When in stock, the pantry also distributes pet food, hygiene products, and cleaning items.
How to Pick Up
The pantry uses a client-choice model where you shop for yourself and pick the items you want to take home, just like a real shopping experience. Shopping carts are available to help carry your selections.
Additional Support
If you're in an urgent situation, emergency help is available. Call the pantry directly at (412) 246-1688 for more information.
Ways to Give
Monetary donations can be made online. The pantry also accepts goods through collection drives, including non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, clothing, school supplies, and gift cards. Furniture and household items such as bedroom and living room furniture, kitchen items, small appliances, and linens are accepted when new or gently used. All clothing donations should be washed before drop-off. To schedule a drop-off or learn more, email info@chscorp.org.
How to Join the Team?
The pantry runs entirely on volunteers. You can sign up on the volunteer sign-up page. Shifts are available Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Groups interested in volunteering together can reach out at info@chscorp.org.
