Good to Know
The Tuesday morning prepacked distribution is a separate service from the regular monthly Thursday distribution. Picking up food on a Tuesday doesn't count as your Thursday visit. Emergency food and other types of assistance are also available on an as-needed basis outside the regular schedule.
How to Pick Up
On the third Thursday of each month, the pantry holds two distribution windows: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. In addition, prepacked food is available every Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Additional Support
Beyond food, the pantry provides financial assistance, furniture assistance, and clothing assistance for those in need. Emergency help is also available outside the regular distribution schedule. To arrange emergency assistance, call 412-781-2866.
Ways to Give
The pantry accepts food and non-food donations. Note that clothing and furniture are not accepted as donations. You can drop items off at St. Mary Church in Sharpsburg (210 Garnier St, Pittsburgh, PA 15215) on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Use the Altmeyer Street entrance. To arrange a drop-off at a different time, call 412-254-4446.
Monetary donations are welcome as cash, check, or online. To give online, visit the parish ministry page and choose "St. Vincent de Paul Society" from the dropdown menu. Checks can be mailed to: Society of St Vincent de Paul Christ the King Conference, 342 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. You can also email svdp.shbg@gmail.com with any questions.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are needed on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., on the Wednesday before each distribution from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and on the third Thursday of the month during either the 9:00 a.m.–noon or 4:00–6:30 p.m. shift. Volunteers can also get involved in financial, furniture, and other services offered on an as-needed basis.
To sign up, fill out the volunteer interest form on the Get Involved page or call 412-781-2866 or 412-254-4446 and leave a message for Barbara George or Mary Benckhart.
