Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore
Who Can Visit?
The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is open to anyone who needs help, regardless of their financial situation. With no income check or documentation requirement, anyone in the community is welcome to come and ask for food.
How Often You Can Visit?
You can visit once a month per person or household.
Good to Know
The food pantry distributes on Fridays from 9 to 11am. It's a good idea to arrive a little before 9am, especially if you want to pick up diapers or hygiene items, which can run out earlier in the session. Lines tend to move quickly.
Food & Essentials
The foodbank distributes a variety of food including fresh vegetables, frozen chicken and other meats, and canned goods. You may also find items that change from month to month. The foodbank also hands out hygiene products and diapers on Fridays.
How to Pick Up
This is a self-select pantry where you pick your own favorite items from what's available that day.
Additional Support
The food bank connects visitors with healthcare screenings, including blood pressure checks, flu shots, and glucose checks, as well as information on other community services and resources. A Mobile Market brings food out to locations across the region for people who can't easily come to the Norfolk site. Emergency food bags may also be available for people in urgent need, so it's worth asking staff in person.
Ways to Give
The foodbank welcomes food and monetary donations. Staff and volunteers are on-site to assist with drop-offs, and the warehouse is set up to receive large donations.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are welcome both as individuals and as teams or work groups. You can sign up for packing shifts or distribution line volunteering. Reach out to the foodbank to find out about current volunteer openings and how to get started.
