Who Can Visit?

Heart of Alabama Food Bank is a regional hub that collects and distributes food, but doesn't hand out groceries to individuals. Instead, food reaches neighbors in need through mobile pantries across the area. To find one close to you, check out the food map on the HAFB website, or call 211 to get connected with local resources right away.

Additional Support

HAFB runs several programs that people may be able to access by contacting the food bank directly:

SNAP Help: HAFB can help you find out if you qualify for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits and walk you through the application process. Start with the SNAP screener on their website.

Senior Supplement Program: Seniors on a fixed income can receive monthly food boxes packed with 12 to 25 pounds of nutritious food, including fresh produce and high-protein items to support better health. Reach out to them for more details.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP): Low-income seniors age 60 and older can receive monthly USDA food packages carefully designed to provide vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that may be missing from their daily meals. Contact them for more information.

Hero's Harvest: Active-duty military families in Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, Bullock, Butler, Chilton, Coosa, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Macon, Pike, and Tallapoosa counties can sign up to receive fresh, healthy food. Enroll through the Hero's Harvest enrollment form. Families outside this service area can call 211 for resources in their community.

Mobile Pantry Program: Mobile pantries bring nutritious food directly to rural and underserved communities across the region. Volunteers help staff these mobile sites to reach families who might otherwise go without. Use their food map to find a distribution site near you.

Ways to Give

You can make a financial donation at hafb.org/donate. Every $1 you give helps provide up to 5 meals through HAFB's network of partner agencies. Many employers offer matching gift programs, so your donation could go even further.

You can also host a fund and food drive to collect grocery items for neighbors in need. Sign up at the food drive page. HAFB also accepts planned giving through a free online will-making tool offered in partnership with FreeWill, letting you include a gift to the food bank in your estate plan at no cost.

How to Join the Team?

Volunteers help at the food bank warehouse and at mobile pantry events. Individuals, groups, and corporate teams are all welcome to box, bag, and sort food that goes to 200-plus partner agencies across Central Alabama. Sign up online at hafb.volunteerhub.com. Check whether your employer offers volunteer incentive programs, which can multiply your time's impact.
