Who Can Visit?
Everyone is welcome here. Barakah Muslim Charity helps people in need without any discrimination of gender, faith, race, or color, and visitors and volunteers alike describe a warm, welcoming place. As one person who has volunteered put it, "We serve everyone no matter belief race creed."
Good to Know
Neighbors say the food is worth the trip. Reviews describe "healthy meats and vegetables" and food that is "of good quality and large quantities," with enough given out to help a family through much of the month. A few visitors mention waiting in line, so it can help to plan a little extra time, but many feel it's "worth waiting for."
Food & Essentials
The food pantry provides nutritious food for families in need, so that no one in the community goes hungry. Visitors mention receiving healthy meats and fresh vegetables. Every Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, the charity also serves a warm, home-cooked community meal where good food and good company are shared and everyone is welcome at the table.
Throughout the year, Barakah holds special food giveaways too. In partnership with Islamic Relief, they hand out over 300 turkeys to families during the Thanksgiving season, share more than 1,000 pounds of Qurbani meat during Eid ul-Adha, and give out special Ramadan gift baskets to help families prepare for the blessed month.
Additional Support
Barakah offers more than food. Their hygiene pantry distributes essential items like diapers, detergent, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and feminine wipes on select Sundays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Their refugee services include document assistance, case management, translation, and referrals, along with help securing household items and clothing, offered on Sundays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm with appointments available on a case-by-case basis.
The charity also runs a re-entry program that helps formerly incarcerated individuals rebuild their lives through financial literacy, mental health support, and life skills training. Each year they give out over 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for the new school year, and through their Day of Dignity, alongside Islamic Relief, they serve hot meals and provide hygiene kits, haircuts, and free medical screenings.
