Who Can Visit?

Dimitri House serves neighbors in the Greater Rochester community who are facing hunger and food insecurity. The Emergency Food Cupboard is open to anyone in need, and visitors have shared that the staff helped them quickly and without judgment.

The Food Cupboard is by appointment only, so you'll need to call before you come.

How to Register?

Call Dimitri House at (585) 325-1796 to set up an appointment for the Emergency Food Cupboard.

Items Needed for Registration

When you arrive, a volunteer will welcome you, check your identification, and verify your address. It's a good idea to bring a photo ID and something that shows where you live.

How Often You Can Visit?

You can receive groceries from the Emergency Food Cupboard once every 30 days.

Good to Know

Each visit gives you a three-day emergency supply of groceries. One visitor shared that the food covered all the food groups, so you can expect a well-rounded selection to help your household.

Food & Essentials

The Emergency Food Cupboard provides a three-day supply of groceries that includes fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, meats and other proteins, and whole grains. You'll also receive paper products and personal hygiene products to round out your visit.

How to Pick Up

When you come for your appointment, a volunteer answers the door, welcomes you, and checks your ID and address. Your food is packaged for you following Foodlink guidelines, and volunteers can help load the groceries into your vehicle.

Additional Support

Dimitri House offers more than groceries through its Drop-In Lunch Program, a soup kitchen where individuals and families can enjoy a nutritious hot meal in a safe and welcoming space. Through this program you can also get public assistance support, clothing referrals, HIV and TB testing, and flu and COVID vaccinations.

Around the holidays, the Adopt-a-Family Thanksgiving Program provides food baskets to families in need. The organization also offers housing and referral services to help neighbors move toward self-sufficiency.

Ways to Give

Dimitri House welcomes both financial gifts and donated goods. You can give a one-time, monthly, or yearly gift online, and the organization also accepts Venmo payments. Checks can be made payable to Dimitri House, Inc. and mailed to 102 North Union Street, Rochester, New York 14607. United Way donors can use the designated funds ID #1389.

Donated goods are also a big help. Needed items include non-perishable groceries like soup, tuna, peanut butter, canned goods, pasta, and rice, along with toiletries, household products, office supplies, warm clothing, and grocery gift cards. Please drop off donations during office hours. You can also adopt a shelf or run a food drive to help keep the pantry stocked. Learn more on the Dimitri House website.

How to Join the Team?

Volunteers are at the heart of Dimitri House. You can help in the office, prepare and serve meals through the Drop-In Lunch Program, or welcome clients and distribute food as a Food Pantry Volunteer. Food Pantry Volunteers should be able to lift 25 lbs. To get started, read the volunteering overview and fill out the application on the volunteer page.
