Who Can Visit?

SHIM's Bethel Park food pantry is open to neighbors in need across the South Hills, primarily serving people in the Baldwin-Whitehall, Bethel Park, Keystone Oaks, Mt. Lebanon, South Park, Upper St. Clair, and West Mifflin school districts. You don't need to register before your first visit. One-time emergency food is also available to anyone in need, no matter where they live. Seniors aged 60 and older can receive monthly senior food boxes.

How Often You Can Visit?

This pantry holds distributions twice a month. Neighbors are welcome to attend any of SHIM's three locations, whichever is most convenient.

Good to Know

Distributions at the Bethel Park location take place both indoors and outdoors, and some items may come pre-packaged during the outdoor portions. SHIM also has food lockers on-site for more flexible food access. To use the lockers, reach out to basic needs director Molly Penderville at mpenderville@shimcares.org or (412) 854-9120 x108.

Food & Essentials

The pantry carries a full range of groceries. About 75% of the food comes from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. SHIM's 14 community gardens also harvest over 19,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables each year to supplement the supply. Along with food, the pantry distributes cleaning supplies and personal care items. Diapers are available through a partnership with the Western PA Diaper Bank, pet food comes through Animal Friends, and birthday kits are provided to help families celebrate special occasions.

How to Pick Up

The Bethel Park pantry uses a drive-through distribution. You stay in your car and receive food at your vehicle. Some items may be pre-packaged, especially during the outdoor portions of the distribution.

Additional Support

SHIM has limited capacity to deliver food directly to neighbors who can't come to the pantry. Contact them to find out more. Beyond food, SHIM's service coordinators can help with emergency hardship grants, utility bill assistance, transportation aid, and free tax preparation through the United Way. The Steps to Success program pairs neighbors with coordinators to set financial and employment goals. The Mobility Mentoring program offers one-on-one coaching to build long-term economic stability. Family and youth services include parenting classes, Immigrant Services and Connections (ISAC), an After School program, Youth Mentoring, and Summer Camp. Cooking demonstrations and garden classes are also sometimes offered on pantry days.

Facilities

SHIM's free Clothing Closet operates every Monday from 10am to 1pm at South Hills Church of the Nazarene. It provides clothing for infants, children, and adults throughout the year.

Ways to Give

Food and personal care item donations are accepted at SHIM's Bethel Park location at 2601 South Park Rd on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm. Call (412) 854-9120 ext. 112 to arrange a different drop-off time. Gift cards to Walmart, Giant Eagle, and GetGo are welcome too. SHIM also partners with Global Links to accept medical supplies. Seasonal clothing and linens can be dropped off on Mondays from 10am to 1pm at South Hills Church of the Nazarene. To give online, visit shimcares.org/give or mail a check to South Hills Interfaith Movement, 2601 South Park Rd, Bethel Park, PA 15102.

How to Join the Team?

SHIM welcomes volunteers for the food pantry, food deliveries, community gardens, driving, and more. All volunteers must complete an application, attend an orientation, and obtain PA Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse clearance, and FBI/Act153 clearance. SHIM provides access codes to help with the clearances. Browse open opportunities and apply at shimcares.org/volunteer or email volunteers@shimcares.org.
