The pantry serves families in the 15108 zip code, as well as residents of Neville Island, Groveton, and Crescent Township.
Who Can Visit?
West Hills Food Pantry is open to anyone in need. There are no specific eligibility requirements. The pantry primarily serves people living in the West Hills area, but anyone who needs food is welcome to come.
If it's your first visit, let a volunteer know when you arrive. You'll briefly meet with a volunteer to share your name and the number of people in your household. This information is for tracking purposes only and won't affect your eligibility. After your first visit, you only need to complete this process once a year.
How Often You Can Visit?
Distributions happen every other Tuesday. About 250 families are served at each bi-weekly distribution.
Good to Know
You can expect a wide variety of fresh items at every distribution. In 2024, fresh produce made up 34% of all grocery items distributed. Most distributions include a choice of three meats, fresh bakery bread, eggs, and milk.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides a broad mix of grocery items including fresh produce, a choice of three meats, bakery bread, eggs, and milk. Dry goods such as nut butter, dried beans and peas, cereal, rice, pasta, and grains are also regularly available, along with canned goods including fish, soups, stews, beans, fruit, and vegetables.
Clients with cats or dogs can receive pet food through the Chow Wagon program, run in partnership with Animal Friends and Animal Advocates.
Senior boxes are also available.
How to Pick Up
When you drive up to the building, a volunteer will hand you a shopping list to fill out. After you park and complete the form, enter the building where a volunteer will take your list and ask you to sign in. Volunteers then fill your order from the shopping list and bring your groceries out to your car. If you need help getting your bags to your vehicle, volunteers are happy to assist.
Additional Support
Through the Chow Wagon program with Animal Friends and Animal Advocates, the pantry provides free dog and cat food so families can keep their pets at home.
Each Easter, children receive treat bags. At Thanksgiving, every family gets a meal bag containing everything needed to prepare a complete Thanksgiving dinner, plus a KDKA turkey fund gift card when available. Each fall, the pantry holds a coat drive. Each winter, a Christmas Shoppe lets clients shop for free for new toys, decorations, wrapping paper, and gifts for people of all ages.
