Who Can Visit?

NICA's food pantry is open to families and individuals in crisis in and around Fort Worth's Northside community. They proudly serve residents from Bosque, Cooke, Denton, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise counties. Families referred by the Fort Worth Independent School District and other agencies are welcome too. Whether you're facing housing instability, unemployment, a health challenge, or you're elderly or disabled, NICA's doors are open. Call ahead to check whether your zip code qualifies before making the trip.

Items Needed for Registration

Bring a photo ID and be ready to share your date of birth and Social Security number. Proof of address, such as a lease, may also be requested.

How Often You Can Visit?

Visitors can come once a month per household.

Good to Know

Visitors typically receive a full cart of food, which reviewers estimate to be around $200 worth of groceries. Meat is often provided frozen, so it keeps well at home. Arrive during open hours since the pantry closes to new visitors when hours end for the day.

Food & Essentials

The pantry offers a wide variety of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meat (such as whole chicken, chicken breast, baby back ribs, shrimp, and lamb chops), canned goods, pasta, and baked goods like cupcakes. Food is sourced largely from donations by local grocery stores. Seniors enrolled in NICA's Good Works program can also receive additional food through that program.

NICA's Community Closet offers clothing for school and work. It's open twice a month, generally 11am-1pm on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. The pantry also provides diapers and baby supplies for families with young children.

How to Pick Up

The pantry uses a client-choice model where visitors walk through the shopping area one at a time and select their own items. Staff assist throughout the process.

Additional Support

NICA provides a range of services beyond food:

  • SNAP assistance: On the 4th Thursday of each month, the Tarrant Area Food Bank RED Bus parks on-site to provide food and help with SNAP applications.
  • Good Works program: Extra resources, case management, pet food, pet care, and seasonal help for senior citizens. Contact info@nicaagency.org for details.
  • Education and resources: NICA regularly hosts sessions on topics like healthcare, wellness, and tax preparation. Check their Facebook page for the monthly calendar.
  • Emergency and crisis support: Case management, crisis counseling, employment, and education services are available for those facing longer-term challenges.

Facilities

NICA has an on-site thrift store open to the public where visitors can shop for clothing and other items.

Ways to Give

NICA welcomes donations to support their mission. You can donate online or reach out by email at info@nicaagency.org. Local grocers and community members are regular contributors to the pantry's food supply.

How to Join the Team?

Volunteers are always welcome at NICA. You can sign up through the Tarrant Area Food Bank volunteer portal at this link to find out how to help at events and at the pantry.
