Who Can Visit?

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of San Antonio serves all community members without regard to gender, race, creed, religion, disability, national origin, or socioeconomic status. Their food pantry, St. Stephen's CARE Center, is open to anyone in the community who needs food assistance.

Seniors with low incomes can also access Project Hope, a separate food program available at the main office.

Food & Essentials

The pantry provides a wide variety of food including canned goods (vegetables, tuna, chicken, and fruit), dry goods (rice, beans, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, vegetable oil, cereal, oatmeal, soup, and mashed potatoes), dairy products, meat, and bread and pastries. Clients can also pick up fresh, organic produce grown in the pantry's own St. Phocas Garden. Diapers are available for clients too.

How to Pick Up

St. Stephen's CARE Center (2127 S. Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78207) is a client-choice food pantry where clients shop for food just like in a grocery store and check out for free, giving everyone dignity and a real sense of choice. Call (210) 226-6178 for more information.

Additional Support

Project Hope gives low-income seniors a two-week food stipend on the first Monday of each month. Project Cool provides free box fans to seniors each summer to help prevent heat-related illness.

Catholic Charities also runs a mobile food pantry to reach people beyond their main sites. A Senior Congregate Meal program serves adults 60 and older a nutritious lunch in a group setting, along with health screenings, nutrition education, and social activities at three local church locations.

For utility and rental assistance, call (210) 226-6178 to schedule an appointment with a case manager. Additional services include counseling, legal aid through Caritas Legal Services, free tax preparation through the VITA program, family and children's services, and an after school program.

Ways to Give

Monetary donations can be made online. You can also shop an Amazon wish list to send pantry items directly to Catholic Charities. Canned food and dry goods can be dropped off at St. Stephen's CARE Center, 2127 S. Zarzamora St, Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. A downloadable list shows the most-needed items. Vehicle donations (cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and more) are also welcome at ccaosa.careasy.org.

How to Join the Team?

Volunteering takes two steps. First, go to Virtus to complete a criminal background check and three required online training modules (Protecting God's Children, Sexual Harassment, and Vulnerable Adults). Once finished, you'll get access to the volunteer portal on GivePulse to complete the application. Reach Volunteer Services at (210) 222-1294 or volunteerdepartment@ccaosa.org when you're ready.
