Who Can Visit?

The food shelf is here for people in need, such as families with small children who might go hungry without this help. Requests for help are looked at carefully to make sure they're genuine. The Resource Center gathers your information on an interview sheet and then verifies it before food assistance is given.

How to Register?

Reach out to the Resource Center to ask for help. You can call the Center at 585-586-0525. Many requests also come through local churches, the school, the Town/Village, and other groups, who point people to the Center. The staff will talk with you, write down your information, and check it so they can set up your food assistance.

Good to Know

Food shelf assistance is usually given for 7 days, with 3 meals per day for each person. So you can expect about a week's worth of food to help your household get by.

Food & Essentials

The Center hands out non-perishable food items. A large share of this food is donated by member churches in the East Rochester Association of Churches, Koinonia Fellowship, the Town/Village of East Rochester, the East Rochester School District, and other groups. The Community Resource Center is also a member of Foodlink of Rochester and uses grants from Foodlink to buy other food items when they're needed.

Facilities

The Center runs a Used Clothing Center. It has been a big help for many young families, larger families, those on public assistance, and anyone who's struggling to make ends meet. You can find warm extras here like coats, sweaters, gloves, and hats.

Ways to Give

The Center welcomes donations of food, hygiene products, and household items. Some of the items most needed include coffee, ketchup, brownie and cookie mixes, mac and cheese, saltine and graham crackers, chicken broth, canned vegetables, cooking oil, and snacks. Helpful hygiene and household donations include shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene products, shaving cream, baby wipes, dish soap, cleaning spray, and dishwasher detergent. The Center posts a monthly pantry needs list you can download. To give or learn more, call the Center at 585-586-0525.
