Bountiful Basement Hunger Center
Who Can Visit?
Bountiful Basement serves residents in parts of zip codes 44135 and 44111, as defined by the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. You'll also need to meet federal income guidelines. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
Items Needed for Registration
Every time you visit, bring a photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID, or green card. On your first visit, also bring a recent piece of mail (like an electric bill or phone bill) that shows your current address. If your photo ID lists a different address from where you live now, you'll need to bring that piece of mail on every visit.
How Often You Can Visit?
Families can come once per calendar month.
Good to Know
Each visit provides seven days' worth of groceries packed into seven to twelve bags. If you're walking, bring a cart since the bags are plentiful and heavy.
Food & Essentials
You'll receive a full seven-day supply of groceries, including fresh produce, meat, canned goods, and other non-perishable food. Bread and pastries from local supermarkets are also given out on every distribution day. You can customize your order from the items available that day.
How to Pick Up
If you're driving, pull into the parking lot on Tuesday mornings, or line up on the side of the building across from Birchwood School on Wednesday evenings. A volunteer will give you a number. Stay in your car until that number is called. A registrar will come to your window, check your ID, and take your order. Make sure your trunk or back seat has enough room for the bags.
If you're walking, wait outside near the door. A registrar will give you a letter and take your order, then your food will be brought out to you. Walkers receive expedited service.
Ways to Give
The Bountiful Basement welcomes donations to help fight hunger in the West Park and Bellaire-Puritas neighborhood. Visit their donation page to give.
How to Join the Team?
Volunteers are the heart of the Bountiful Basement. There are many roles to choose from, both indoors (Bagger, Bag Maker, Bread Supervisor, Stocker, Cleanup, Registrar) and outdoors (Traffic Director, Carrier, Runner, Order-taker). Visit the volunteer page to learn more and get involved.
