Who Can Visit?
MY Family Pantry, an initiative of MY Project USA, serves free food to families and vulnerable community members on the west side of Columbus. The pantry is located in the Hilltop neighborhood and primarily focuses on underserved youth and families. The organization serves all children and families that reach out regardless of their faith or race, though its mission is focused on the Muslim community.
Good to Know
You can visit the pantry once every week. Reviewers say you'll walk away with a really good amount of food, including fresh produce and some extras. It's a good idea to arrive on time, as one reviewer mentioned the importance of being there early.
Food & Essentials
The pantry provides a wide variety of groceries. You can expect fresh produce, dairy products like milk and cheese, frozen items, and shelf-stable goods. Reviewers mention coolers with dairy products, sometimes premade salads or cold fruits, and usually something sweet — cold, frozen, or shelf-stable. There's also a good amount of fresh produce available.
How to Pick Up
MY Family Pantry is a walk-through pantry. When you arrive, you check in at the desk and give your credentials. Then you walk through the pantry with a cart, picking your own items. Most items are labeled with a number showing how many you can take based on your household size. You zig-zag through the pantry and can take the cart directly to your car to load up, then return the cart when you're done. It's quick, efficient, and simple.
Additional Support
MY Project USA offers a wide range of programs at the same location. MY Community Cafe, located at the Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center, serves over 100 free hot meals daily to youth in their programs and offers 100% Halal food. MY Deah's Warehouse provides food, clothing, household items, furniture, and legal and financial help to youth and families in need at a separate location (4004 Fondorf Dr., Columbus, OH 43228 — by appointment only).
