Who Can Visit?
The Time Dollar Community Table food pantry is open to all Bexar County residents who meet income guidelines.
How Often You Can Visit?
Visitors can come once per month to receive food.
Food & Essentials
Each visit, you'll get a box or bag prepared with food from every food group. Time Dollar focuses on making each package as healthy and nutritious as possible. Fresh herbs and vegetables from the on-site Jardín de la Esperanza community garden are often included. Through a partnership with the Yard Farmers and Ranchers Market, boxes may also contain fresh locally grown and organic vegetables, herbs, artisanal breads, free-range eggs, artisanal cheese, condiments, and sometimes pork or beef. All food items are based on availability.
How to Pick Up
Boxes or bags are prepared ahead of time and ready for you to take home. Come in on Mondays from 9:30 to 11:45 AM during pantry hours.
Additional Support
Time Dollar runs a spring and fall series called Gardening and Sustainable Living Classes. You'll learn Square Foot Gardening, a simple method that uses just 20% of the space, water, and work but still produces a full harvest. Topics include planting, herbs and companion planting, composting, water saving, organic pest control, saving seeds, nutrition, healthy cooking, diabetes management through food, sustainable cooking, canning, and the use of traditional medicinal plants. Cooking demos and recipes help visitors get comfortable with unfamiliar vegetables, and nutrition classes focus on diabetes and healthy eating.
How to Join the Team?
Time Dollar has many volunteer roles. For the food pantry, you can help with intake forms on Monday mornings, drive a truck to pick up food orders from the San Antonio Food Bank twice a month, enter data, or help unload and sort incoming food deliveries. Learn more on the volunteer page.
